Global Delights Coffee Honduras in Review "Wants Drunk"

“Have you Kaplowitz’d to-day?”

Global Delights Single Origin Honduran

ORIGIN: Honduras, Chinacia, La Paz
VARIETAL: Catuai & Orange Bourbon

PROCESS: Fully washed
BREW METHOD: Pour-over

INTENSITY: Medium

WEBSITE: globaldelights.com

NOTES:
Chocolate | Caramel | Apricot

Smallish notes, great gooey expanses twixt. Those in-betweens are filled to the brim w/ nutty smoky earthiness. Notes, though: A plush powdered cocoa. A caramel w/ honey malt attachment. Apricot, dried, pops in & out. Charred oak structures well but there is a ton of that bulging earth for it to contend with. A more-ish offering. Wants drunk.

Undertones are murky depths of hidey leather, toasted cereal grains a smoked paprika trace. As the cup cools, a bit of clean fruitiness tarts in a tick. [Melon.] Or tries to -- settles into body addition more-so than flavor. Does serve well there. Nuance over complexity, a deep brew. Robust but not dense... balanced on rays of light in a dark dusty room.

Imparts an almost spooky mood there, in a fun sorta manner. Vincent Price quirky, not Nathan Lane quirky. I'm fresh home from Halloween candy shopping, in the mood. I'll pivot, digress. Aroma is sweet earth, toasted marshmallow thinly. Eyeballs to a somewhat foggy view, amber highlights. A treat above the typical Honduran trick.

[insert Halloween pun]

Kaplowitz Radio. EP199 "Fine Wit"

lo-fi & lovely

We start out w/ a quite cerebral visit from Phil Kurut, wherein we talk shop in regards to cigar reviewing. Then Lee Marsh of Stolen Throne Cigars stops by for a palate-cleansing bit of silly billiness. Finally, Mike comes in to talk about the past, present, and future of Kaplowitz Radio. ... Will EP200 be its last??? Before all that I read some Shakespeare. Closing out all that? Kaplowitz Reads Kaplowitz. Really big shoe. Important af.

Global Delights Coffee Rocksteady in Review "Smooth. Supple. Smoopple? Sure."

“Have you Kaplowitz’d to-day?”

Global Delights Rocksteady

ORIGIN: Central and South American
BREW METHOD: Pour-over

INTENSITY: Medium

WEBSITE: globaldelights.com

NOTES:
Earth | Chocolate malt | Nuts

Smooth. Supple. Smoopple? Sure. Gently bittersweet leathery earth top-to-bottom w/ some really great complexities/nuances. But I'm on-ahead of myself. Sits in the cup looking a lot like coffee. California suede w/ brick red clouded depths. Doesn't water at the edges. Sips to swirls of 85% cacao, black walnut/pecan nuttiness & citrus which tugs chocolate.

A Terry's Chocolate Orange. That's it. Some tropical floral & fruit notes. A beef stew underpinning. A crisp black pepper twang, fleetingly. Excellent balance, very good structure -- plush, unrigid. Easy-peasy but not lazy. Cools into softwoods... pine. Yeasty. Sweet. Pine nuts. A pignoli cookie? Sure. Eye-talian. Almond paste. Homey comfy.

Clean. Finishes sweet & clean. Lip-smacking & sating. Kinda like a country drive. Long-easy curves and gradual peaks/valleys. Unfurls extraordinarily well. Suede now. Evolving. Tons of character. A chillen brew. I'd like it by a campfire on a beach. It's actually a lot like that. Malty, too. Lots going on w/ no rush to put on. Seemingly wants re-evaluated via Moka Pot.

Global Delights Coffee Academia in Review "Does Cadillac Make a Safari Vehicle?"

“Have you Kaplowitz’d to-day?”

Global Delights
Academia Blend

ORIGIN: Central American, Micronesian
VARIETAL: Caturra, Castillo, Catuai, Typica, Orange Bourbon
PROCESS: Fully Washed

BREW METHOD: Pour-over
INTENSITY: Medium

WEBSITE: globaldelights.com

NOTES:
Carmelized molasses | Hazelnuts | Hickory smoke

Smoky-sweet, cleanly. With crisp neat astringency. A roasted orange acidity. Fullness. Bright not sunny. Smooth. Eyeballs to a patent leather sheen, brick-red rim and depths. Smoked schnoz, fennel seed, an umami-triggering earthiness. Wettens up the corners of your tongue on first silky-sip. Outdoorsy a la glamping. Authentic, nonetheless. (& smarter.)

Molasses evolves into toffee; a bit of Werther's Original under that. Hazelnuts, big, within balance. Undertones cool into a dark chocolate pip. Fennel becomes more anise. [C]hickory Dickory Dock. A N'awlins feel. A cuppa w/ a slow drawl. Charming, calming. Firm, though. Confident. Excellent structure, delineation. Friggin' salivating. Flannel. A hipster who can change a tire.

Peppery, kindly, black & green. Delicate yet sturdy, dig? A wing-roofed Aspen home. Earthiness gets a further beef broth injection of savoriness. Clear. Barnyard, a well-kept western show saddle. Complex, nuanced, & evolving. Yet attainable & familiar. A tick adventuresome in well-controlled environs. Does Cadillac make a safari vehicle?

NxtWave Coffee Special Edition* (Fall 2020) in Review "Frequenting Taco Trucks"

“Have you Kaplowitz’d to-day?”

NxtWave Coffee
Special Edition*
(Fall 2020) in Review

ORIGIN: Brazil. Patrocinio, Minas Gerais (Cerrado Mineiro)
VARIETAL: Red Catuai

PROCESS: Natural
BREW METHOD: Pour-over

INTENSITY: Medium

WEBSITE: nxtwavecoffee.com

NOTES:
Charred oak | Dark chocolate | Leather

Patent leather looks & tip-toeing nose. Dark, shiny, & mute. See? A sinewy 147lb'er outside of camp between fights, walking around at190lbs. Frequenting taco trucks. Charred oak structures & drives, calms when the dark chocolate opens up past its own waxiness, joins. Plum, hanging heavy from the tree.

Leather envelopes in an evolving earthen manner. Barnyard, compost. Fresh fruit dalliances add nice acidity, stave off the abyss. Undertones of beef broth. Taco seasoning (from a block away). A bit of anise seed, maybe fennel. Mainly black peppercorn. Starts simply, shifts to another familiar gear. Each done quite well. This offering smokes pipe tobacco, bear w/ me. [Scarred knuckles.]

Traditional, & top-shelf therein. Calming & heartening. Black walnuts as it cools further. Complex, un-jarringly-so. Lesser nuanced depths than expected; notes skim along the top. Smooth, sating. A gentleman & a scholar with a wild past. [Faded chest piece tat under tweed sportscoat]

Tinker Coffee Co. Keramo Ethiopia in Review "Coffee-Colored, Calmly"

“Have you Kaplowitz’d to-day?”

Tinker Coffee Co.
Keramo Ethiopia

ORIGIN: Sidama Zone, Bensa District
PROCESS: Low Oxygen Natural
BREW METHOD: Pour-over

INTENSITY: Medium-Full

WEBSITE: www.tinkercoffee.com

NOTES:
Melon | Rose hips | Ligero tobacco

Looks like a patent leather boot worn for a walk on a well-tamped dirt trail. Also: coffee-colored, calmly. Smells like rosewater and composted earth. Rosewater tastes like roses but I taste rosehips on the sip... tangy nigh puckering. Hibiscus. Firming, astringent. Black tea. Stone fruit: nectarine, apricot.

Eases into a melon, watermelon then further into cantaloupe juices. This melon melange steers and leads into a lengthy finish just shy of cloying. Robust. Peppery ligero tobacco weaves in/out in the up-top. That tobacco is tied into the upper middlings and from there, an earthen midsection. Savory & agile topsoil. Cocoa.

A bit of something like a toasted sesame oil on the back-end; it's there on the body too. Well-rounded & well-balanced each in severe understatement. Complex af & excellent of structure. Beautiful delineation atop merry little dalliances below. Intense & intensely interesting. Neither in a manner which reels but an "Oh, my" is apropos.
